Another Day

Wariness surrounds your every move

And when not, it complicates your mind

The reasons you don’t understand become excuses

And the ones that you don’t see just fall away

I remember a time I held your hand

Had your say in things under my command

And I would clean the very space you tread across

But that was another time, another day

Since then you’ve lost what I’ve given up

You’ve grown and I’ve remained

Cutting the corners of every rule

To keep my sadness sane

The unhealthy burden of solitude

Rests only in my head

Encased in cement of harsh loving

But that was another time, another day
